Two women are filing charges against Anthony Edwards after he allegedly hit them with a chair after Minnesota’s Game 5 loss to Denver on Tuesday, but his attorney believes they are “baseless charges’.
“With the game over, Anthony’s exit from the court was partially obstructed by a chair, which he moved and set down three steps later,” Harvey Steinberg wrote on behalf of his client.
“As video of the incident confirms, Anthony did not swing the chair at anyone and of course did not intend to hurt anyone. Despite these innocent facts, the Denver Police Department inexplicably chose to charge Anthony with two counts of misdemeanor assault. Anthony intends to vigorously defend against these baseless charges.”
Edwards has been cited for third-degree assault after the incident at Ball Arena in Denver and is due to appear in court on June 9. Third-degree assault in the state of Denver can be punishable by up to 18 months jail time and or a $1000 fine.
There were multiple videos showing what happened but it is hard to tell exactly what occurred but it seems as though Edwards didn’t set out to deliberately hurt anyone, he was just frustrated he missed the shot that could have tied the game and sent it into OT.
