On Monday, Boston center Kristaps Porzingis took to X to inform his followers that he has been unable to play due to an illness – the exact nature of which has not yet been determined or made clear.
“I have been dealing with some viral illness that we haven’t been able to fully identify yet,” Porzingis shared on the platform. “I am recovering and getting better. But still working my way back to full strength to help this team. Thanks for the support and [I’m] hoping for a healthy return soon.”
Porzingis has not played since February 26 in Detroit against the Pistons, with the Celtics team labeling his absence as a non-COVID illness.
It looked as though the big man was going to take his return on Saturday against the Lakers, since he was upgraded to questionable after initially being listed as doubtful, but he was then downgraded to out.
Monday’s matchup marked his sixth consecutive game on the sidelines.
The 7-foot-2 center is averaging 18.9 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks in 32 games for the Celtics this season.
He missed the first month of the season after having surgery in the offseason to address a tendon injury in his ankle, which occurred during last year’s NBA Finals championship run.
The Celtics have been on an impressive run, securing victories in 15 of their last 18 games, which has propelled them into the second position in the Eastern Conference.
Looking ahead, they are set to host the Thunder, currently leading the Western Conference, for a highly anticipated matchup on Wednesday night at their home court.
