22-year old power forward Kriss Helmanis (209-PF-2002) put on an amazing game in the last round for second-ranked Rigas Zelli and receives a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 27.
He had a double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds, while his team crushed Valmiera Glass (#6, 15-10) with 23-point margin 91-68. Rigas Z. is placed at 2nd position in LAT-EST BL. They would have been even better if they hadn’t lost a few games earlier this season. Rigas Z. will need more victories to improve their 20-6 record. In the team’s last game Helmanis had a remarkable 61.5% from 2-point range. It was one of impressive evenings for him as usually he does not deliver so high stats. Helmanis has impressive league stats. He is in league’s top in rebounds (7th best: 7.8rpg) and averages solid 1.7bpg and 55.1% FGP.
Second best performed player last round was Rostyslav Novitskyi (204-PF-2000) of Valmiera Glass/Vidzemes Augstskola. He is Ukrainian forward in his second season at Valmiera Glass. In the last game Novitskyi recorded an impressive double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds. Bad luck as Valmiera Glass lost that game 68-91 to the higher-ranked Rigas Z. (#2, 20-6). Valmiera Glass managed to keep the same 6th spot in the standings. His team lost some distance to top teams. But a 15-10 record is not bad and everything may still change. Novitskyi is well-known at Valmiera Glass and he already established his position as one of the team’s leaders.
Third place about best performers goes to guard Javeon Jones (188-PG-2000) of Keila Korvpallikool (#14). Jones showcased his all-around game by recording 23 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists in the last round. Despite Jones’ great performance the Keila KK lost 71-77 to the higher-ranked Ventspils (#8, 12-12). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. Keila KK can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 4-20 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Jones has individually a great season in LAT-EST BL. After only 7 games, he made it on the list of the league’s leaders in points with 24.6ppg (best scorer) and assists with 5.6apg (4th best). He also has 5.6spg and a FGP of 56.4%.

The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it’s accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) – 2*BSAG – 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM – 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) – 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) – (FTA-FTM)
