Mersin BBGSK , the newcommer of BSL, agreed terms with experienced 34-year old Mexican international guard Francisco Cruz (191cm-95kg-1989, college: Wyoming) for upcoming 2024-25 season. Cruz played last season at Manisa BBSK in the BSL.
He has been also a member of Mexican international program for some years. Cruz has regularly played for Mexican senior team since 2013 and previously for University National Team back in 2011.
He represented Mexico at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla (Colombia) six years ago. His stats at that event were 4 games: 15.3ppg, 4.5rpg, 2.0apg, 1.3spg, FGP: 34.6%, 3PT: 32.4%, FT: 70.0%.
Cruz is quite experienced player. He has played in six different countries on three different continents (Europe, Latin America and of course North America). Cruz has played previously professionally also in Argentina (Olimpico), Latvia (VEF Riga), Lithuania (Rytas), Spain (Fuenlabrada) and Mexico (Halcones Rojos, Guinda and Pioneros) and Turkey (Tofas, Manisa and Afyon). His team won Mexican LNBP Regular Season in 2014 and 2015.
The list of the past achievements is quite long as among others he was voted to Eurobasket.com All-Turkish League Honorable Mention in 2023.
He graduated from University of Wyoming in 2012 and it is his 13th (hopefully lucky) (!!!) season as a professional player. Cruz played also for Western Nebraska Community College for one year.
