In a challenging stretch for the Detroit Pistons (2-26), their 25th consecutive loss came at the hands of the Utah Jazz (11-18), fueling frustration among fans and bringing the team perilously close to an undesirable NBA single-season record.
With one more loss, the Pistons would tie the record for consecutive losses, currently shared by the 2010-11 Cleveland Cavaliers and the 2013-14 Philadelphia 76ers at 26 games.
As the Pistons grapple with their struggles and the looming record, fans took to expressing their dissatisfaction in a vocal manner.
During the game, chants of “Sell the team! Sell the team!” echoed through the arena, directed at team owner Tom Gores and his Platinum Equity firm.
The collective plea for change reflects the growing impatience of Pistons fans, who have endured a challenging season with only two victories in 28 games.
The frustration is palpable, and the ownership now faces increased pressure to address the issues that have led to this extended period of disappointment.
Team owner Tom Gores responded to the chants, acknowledging the fans’ frustration but emphasizing the positive impact the organization has had in the community.
“They can say what they want, but that’s ridiculous,” Gores said, per Jack Maloney of CBS Sports. “Other than winning — and we should win more games — we do a lot in the community. Players, the organization, we do a lot in the community.
Despite the rough on-court performance, Gores highlighted the Pistons’ contributions outside of basketball, urging fans to recognize the team’s broader impact beyond the win-loss column.
“If you put aside winning, we’ve made a very big difference in the community,” he continued. “That means a lot to me. I understand that’s only going to mean a lot to people if we win, but the underworking of what’s happening and with our community, over all these years, is there. We’re doing multibillion-dollar things outside of (basketball). I understand the fans being upset, but it’s a ridiculous thought.”
