Bahamas advance in Olympic basketball qualifying, thanks to Eric Gordon, Buddy Hield


Why would Hoosiers cheer for The Bahamas? Eric Gordon and Buddy Hield, that’s why.

The shooting guards helped The Bahamas advance in 2024 Olympic qualifying with an 82-75 upset win over host Argentina. Gordon scored 27 points and Hield 17 in the finale. The Bahamas team also includes DeAndre Ayton.

Gordon averaged 20.3 points in the four-game tournament, making 65% from long range. Hield averaged 19.8 points.

Gordon is an IndyStar Mr. Basketball from North Central High School who played one season for Indiana University. His mother grew up in The Bahamas. Hield, the Indiana Pacers’ 3-point sharpshooter, is a native of the island nation.

The Bahamas, which has never played in the OIympic basketball tournament, will be among 24 teams seeking spots for the Paris Games in tournaments next summer. Argentina, the gold medalists in 2004, will miss the Olympics for the first time since 2000.
