Experienced American Cameron Jones (193-G-1989, agency: BIG) had an amazing evening in the last round for Kauhajoki and that’s him to receive a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 6.
The 33-year old guard had the game-high 24 points adding three rebounds and nine assists for Kauhajoki in his team’s victory, helping them to beat Kotka (#3, 4-2) 100-95. Kauhajoki is placed at 5th position in Finnish Korisliiga. They would have been even better if they hadn’t lost two games earlier this season. Kauhajoki will need more victories to improve their 3-2 record. In the team’s last game Jones had a remarkable 72.7% from 2-point range. It’s his second year at Kauhajoki and it’s hard to imagine this team without him. Northern Arizona University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Jones is in league’s top in assists (3rd best: 5.8apg) and averages solid 52.6% from behind 3-point line. Worth to mention Jones played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball.
The second most remarkable performance in last round’s games was young American swingman Jeffrey Carroll (198-G/F-1994) of Seagulls. Carroll impressed basketball fans with 26 points and 8 rebounds. Bad luck as Seagulls lost that game 90-102 to Vilpas (2-4). The game was between two teams which are definitely not main contenders for the title. Seagulls keeps 9th position. His team is not often considered as one of the league’s best with a mere 2-4 record. Carroll is a newcomer at Seagulls and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team’s leaders. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 18.5ppg (#6). He also registered 6.5 boards per game.
The third best performed player last round was American Brandon Tabb (193-G-1995) of Kotka (#3). Tabb got into 30-points club by scoring 36 points in the last round. Despite Tabb’s great performance Kotka lost 95-100 to slightly lower-ranked Kauhajoki (#5, 3-2). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. The last thing Kotka needs is to lose another game like this one. They lose more and more distance to the top teams. Their record is 4 victories and 2 lost games. Tabb has a great season in Finland. After only 6 games, he made it on the list of the league’s leaders in points with 19.7ppg (5th best). He also has FGP: 51.4% and 3PT: 40.7%. Tabb attended one of camps at Eurobasket Summer League on his way to pro basketball.
