There were only 2 rounds played so far and it’s still very beginning of the Regular Season in Euroleague. The round was exceptionally exciting as four games ended with a tiny margin. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.
The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Turkish Efes on the court of French Monaco on Thursday night. Visitors were edged by Monaco 95-92. They dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Efes’ 36. Monaco looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Guinean-American forward Alpha Diallo (201-1997, college: Providence) orchestrated the victory by scoring 15 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists. American guard Mike James (185-1990, college: Lamar) contributed with 19 points and 4 assists for the winners. American forward Will Clyburn (201-1990, college: Iowa St.) replied with 27 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) for Efes. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Monaco is looking forward to face Maccabi Tel-Aviv in Tel Aviv in the next round. Efes will play at home against Valencia and are hoping to win this game.
Another exciting game for German ALBA Berlin which played on the court of Italian Milano. ALBA Berlin won 80-74. Israeli point guard Tamir Blatt (178-1997) scored 13 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Jaleen Smith chipped in 13 points and 4 assists during the contest. Danish Shavon Shields (201-1994, college: Nebraska) responded with 15 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. ALBA Berlin will play against Panathinaikos in Athens in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Milano will play on the road against Partizan in Beograd to get more than just one victory in their record.
One of the most interesting games of round 2 was a derby match between two teams from Spain. The game took place in Barcelona where Barca edged visiting Real Madrid 75-73. Tomas Satoransky notched 12 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the effort. Even 21 points by Gabriel Deck did not help to save the game for Real Madrid. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Barca will meet Bayern Muenchen in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Real Madrid will play against Olympiacos and hope to win that game.
There were no big surprises in other games of round 2: Panathinaikos beat Crvena Zvezda on the road 77-75. Virtus BO won against Bayern on its own court 66-63. Winless M.Tel-Aviv lost to undefeated Fenerbahce in Istanbul 71-86. Olympiacos managed to beat Zalgiris at home 90-80. Partizan lost to Baskonia on the opponent’s court 96-103. Valencia lost to French defending champion ASVEL in a home game 76-77.
The most impressive performance of 2nd round was 16 points and 4 assists by Nando De Colo of ASVEL.

Crvena Zvezda – Panathinaikos 75-77
But Crvena Zvezda was not able to use a home court advantage and was edged by the opponent from Athens 77-75 on Thursday night. Lithuanian swingman Marius Grigonis (198-1994) notched 17 points to lead the effort and Polish Mateusz Ponitka (198-1993) supported him with 10 points. Even 18 points and 6 rebounds by Ghanian-American Ben Bentil (204-1995, college: Providence) did not help to save the game for Crvena Zvezda. Luka Mitrovic (204-1993, agency: Octagon Europe) added 8 points and 6 rebounds for the hosts. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Panathinaikos will meet ALBA Berlin on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Crvena Zvezda will play against Baskonia in Vitoria and hope to win that game.

Greek-American point guard Nick Calathes (196-1989, college: Florida) notched 13 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists to lead the effort and Serbian swingman Marko Guduric (196-1995, agency: BeoBasket) supported him with 23 points and 6 rebounds. Even 12 points and 9 rebounds by American power forward Josh Nebo (206-1997, college: Texas A&M, agency: BeoBasket) did not help to save the game for Maccabi Tel-Aviv. American-Spanish point guard Lorenzo Brown (196-1990, college: NC State) added 13 points and 6 assists for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Maccabi Tel-Aviv’s coach rotated eleven players and allowed the starting five to rest. Not a big story in a game when Lithuanian Zalgiris lost to Greek Olympiacos in Piraeus 80-90 on Friday. Olympiacos made 25-of-28 free shots (89.3 percent) during the game. Cypriot-Bulgarian forward Aleksandar Vezenkov (206-1995) notched a double-double by scoring 23 points and 14 rebounds to lead the effort and French center Moustapha Fall (216-1992) supported him with 16 points and 5 rebounds. Even 21 points by Canadian-Lithuanian Ignas Brazdeikis (201-1999, college: Michigan) did not help to save the game for Zalgiris. American power forward Tyler Cavanaugh (206-1994, college: GWU) added 12 points and 7 rebounds for the guests. Five Olympiacos and four Zalgiris players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Olympiacos will meet Real Madrid on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game.
