Golden State Warriors’ forward Andrew Wiggins has been vaccinated against COVID-19, per coach Steve Kerr; ending a media circus that stemmed from the starter potentially having to miss all home games due to San Francisco ordinances requiring all employees to be vaccinated.
On Warriors’ media day earlier this week, Wiggins iterated to reporters that his vaccination status was a “private matter.”
When pushed on his aversion to the vaccines, Wiggins said “It’s my problem not yours,” per NBA.com.
Now that Wiggins has been vaccinated, the Warriors can move forward for the regular season at full strength.
Last season in Golden State, Wiggins averaged 18.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 2.4 assists on 48% shooting from the field, per Basketball Reference.
Wiggins will likely be derided by skeptics for his decision to take the COVID-19 vaccine.
If Wiggins didn’t take the vaccine before the start of the regular season, he would have lost ~$350,000 in salary for every game missed.
