Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young is happy with his continued growth as a leader.

Lauren L. Williams: “As far as just kind of continuing to grow into your role as a leader, your teammates are really starting to pick up on your signs of leadership in the locker room. Dre [Hunter] gave you a shout-out yesterday about your defense and how guys are able to feed off of that. How have you felt like you’ve matured over the summer stepping into the season being that guy that guys look up to in the locker room?”
Young: “Well, it’s a thing. Since I’ve been in the league, I’ve been on really young teams and haven’t really had a team besides the year we went to the Conference Finals where we were kind of considered like a veteran team with some mixture of young guys. And even this year, we’re a pretty young team with a few vets on our team, but for the most part, the guys that play are young. It’s my sixth year, but I’ve had a lot of experience. So for me, it’s just trying to give as much input, more than that I’ve been used to, and then also showing it. I’ve always been a person that leads by actions more than my words, so when people talk about me leading vocally, that’s been why because I’ve always been a person that would rather lead by actions than words. And so now, I’m trying to do both. Since I’ve got in the league, I feel like I’ve gotten better at it every year. And I think now, it’s just continuing to do more, lead even more by example and also more vocally. So I’m just trying to continue to do that, and I’m going to continue to get better at that too.”
