Trade Value Rankings 3.0: The Top 100 in the NBA

With free agency mostly completed, we’ve provided a major update to the HoopsHype Trade Value Rankings.

The HoopsHype staff voted on these players and compiled this list. We arrived at this conclusion after weighing factors such as a player’s talent, age, availability, positional scarcity, current salary, and what their next contract could look like.

The ranking will be updated constantly as events such as new contracts, injuries, and changes in performance occur. The biggest changes in this edition include movement for players that got new contracts either in free agency or through an extension. Also, recent trades such as the Wolves’ acquisition of Rudy Gobert have influenced where several available All-Stars such as Kevin Durant and Donovan Mitchell rank.

We also added several of the top selections in the 2023 draft since they are certainly among the most coveted players in the league.

Giannis Antetokounmpo, the perennial MVP candidate with a ton of prime years ahead of him, remains at No. 1 in the Trade Value Rankings.

Here it is…

Even if the Bucks window were to close soon and another team offers all their best young players as well as all the picks and swaps they can possibly offer for Antetokounmpo, Milwaukee would probably hang onto him. His value for the franchise extends beyond the court.

Doncic might be the most difficult player to scheme against and has given some of the top defenses fits on a nightly basis. It’s not unreasonable to project him to finish his career out as a Top 25 player all-time or even better. That idea has several franchises sleeping poorly at night for not selecting him when they had the chance.

Jokic’s immense value was put to the ultimate test when he propped up a team of mostly role players last season to nearly 50 wins in a stacked conference. His game should age well over the length of the supermax contract he signed, which means he could still return a ransom should the Nuggets decide to trade him down the line.

The promise Tatum showed in his rookie season has finally formed into a consistent superstar. He has proven he can be the No. 1 guy on a championship-contending team when he has the right support group around him. There’s no trade package that could possibly get Boston’s interest for him after the Finals run they had.

The two-time MVP runner-up has so much equity in Philadelphia, they probably still wouldn’t consider trading Embiid even if some of his previous injuries start resurfacing into something long-term. He would probably be a little higher on this list if not for his health history.

Had Golden State had another disappointing season, we might be talking about their window being closed and speculating the merits of a full rebuild. Williamson’s trade value is a little tricky to gauge right now, but it is still very high despite his injury history. It’s not unreasonable to think he could be in the Top 10 of this list should he come back and build off his strong 2020-21 season.

The Rookie of the Year has the makings of a star and should rise in these rankings this season based on his trajectory. The fact that he’s considered as one of the best returns the Nets could possibly get for Durant already says enough about how strongly the league views him.

Davis finds himself at No. 20 on this list after going through a second consecutive down season that was also injury-riddled. It’s hard to see him not improve this year, but it’s unclear if he will regain his 2019-20 form that would’ve put him at least in the Top 10.

Butler had yet another brilliant playoff performance carrying a significant load of the Heat’s offense. Murray’s ascent into being an All-Star and one of the best defensive guards in the league has completely changed his trade value over the last season. One of the more underrated aspects of his game he’s improved on is his three-point shooting, which leaves room for his value to further increase.

Bridges’ $90 million extension is set to kick in, and he’s already looking like a great value on it. Beal’s name has been in trade rumors for over a year now, and the Wizards probably could’ve gotten a massive haul for him last year. Instead, they kept him and re-signed him to a maximum contract. His annual salary, trade bonus, player option, and no-trade clause have lowered his value.
