The number one draft pick Victor Wembanyama and number two pick Brandon Miller could matchup on day one of the NBA’s Summer League when the Spurs play the Hornets in Las Vegas.
July 7 -17 is when Summer League takes place and Charlotte and San Antonio will also play each other the week before at the California Classic in Sacramento on July 3 and July 5.
Many are wondering if generational talent Wembanyama will take the court at all during these two tournaments but he made his intentions clear last week.
“I’m going to be playing the Summer League,” the number one pick declared on Wednesday.
“I’ve been lifting pretty much every day except for the day when I traveled. I was lifting this morning with my coach. I’m not too tired.”
Spurs coach Gregg Popovich also confirmed the 19-year-old will take part.
“We’re talking about what he should be doing moving forward,” Popovich said. “He will participate in the Summer League. To what degree, we’re not sure yet.”
If Wemby does make an appearance, the NBA have planned for it as the San Antonio-Charlotte game from that day will televised on ESPN in the evening.
Another intriguing game between Portland and Houston, which will potentially include number three pick Scoot Henderson and number four pick Amen Thompson, will also be on ESPN the same night.
French superstar Wembanyama touched down in San Antonio on Friday afternoon and the franchise wasted no time.
They whisked Wemby was taken out to dinner with some of the Spurs best ever players including Tim Duncan, David Robinson, Manu Ginobili and Sean Elliott.
“Probably in a couple hours, I learned more about the NBA than my whole life before that,” Wembanyama said on Saturday afternoon. “It’s so comforting to see these people who are so important to the city of San Antonio and the franchise are such great people and generous. They genuinely wanted to share their experience. I feel like they’ve already started to take great care of me. It’s so important to be in a position where it’s so comfortable.”
