Three things you might have missed from Celtics-Heat Game 1

The NBA Playoffs are unbelievably back. After a week of dead time with no Boston Celtics basketball to enjoy, they opened up their postseason with an emphatic Game 1 victory over the Miami Heat.

Headlined by stifling defense and a Caleb Martin undercut in the closing minutes, Boston earned a 1-0 series lead over the Jimmy Butler-less Heat on Sunday afternoon.

For the playoffs, the three things you might have missed will be comprised of one clip, one quote, and one in-arena occurrence that may not have been properly translated to the viewing audience at home.

Let’s check them out.

1. Jayson Tatum working out of double-teams

Despite not having the most efficient showing, Jayson Tatum was one of the most important players on the floor for the Celtics in Game 1.

He recorded his first-ever playoff triple-double, and he added a bunch of uncounted hockey assists to his totals as well.

This pass to Sam Hauser is a perfect example of just how great Tatum was as a facilitator on Sunday.

It doesn’t look like much, but this was how the Heat were guarding Tatum all night. Constantly seeing multiple bodies, Tatum was fine with making the simple pass and letting his teammates do the rest.

“Sometimes it’s being able to not get bored, right?” Tatum said post-game. “Finding the mismatch that you want, understanding that they’re not going to let you play one-on-one – they’re going to send a double. And making the right pass out and essentially getting a hockey assist. We kept finding the right man and he was hot, and shot it with confidence.”

In addition, this play marked Hauser’s first three of the night after a couple of tough misses in the first quarter. He went on to drain four triples in the second.

Miami decided not to let Tatum play one-on-one, but when they threw pressure at him, he made them pay.

2. Kristaps Porzingis: ‘I don’t care about him’

After the game, Abby Chin of NBC Sports Boston asked Kristaps Porzingis whether or not he takes his matchup with Bam Adebayo personally.

The big man chuckled as he answered, delivering a perfect response that included the line, “I don’t care about him.”

“No, this is business,” Porzingis said. “Of course, we want to stop him as much as possible, but understanding they’re gonna play through him all the time, [and] he’s gonna be involved in all the situations. I don’t care about him. I care about our team and what we’re trying to achieve; this is not one one-on-one, me against Bam, this is Celtics against Heat. So, we’ll make sure that’s our focus.”

3. JD Davison and Drew Peterson’s seats

There are only so many seats on the Celtics’ bench. Evidently, there are not enough for the two-way guys, who are back with the team now that their G League season is over but cannot participate in the postseason.
