Memphis Grizzlies head coach, Taylor Jenkins, has responded to an ESPN story that raised questions about the influence of Ja Morant’s father, Tee Morant, on the young NBA star’s recent troubles.
In recent months, Ja Morant faced criticism and a 25-game suspension to start the 2023-24 season due to his inappropriate behavior, leading some within the Grizzlies organization to point to Tee Morant’s presence at games and events as a contributing factor.
Tee Morant, who relocated to Memphis shortly after his son’s NBA draft, has been visible at Grizzlies games and social events, often enjoying VIP privileges and media attention. His active role in his son’s life and the series of incidents have reportedly raised concerns among the team.
“I read the article, and I’m not going to comment on anonymous sources. I’m not really going to comment on the past,” said Jenkins said, per Damichael Cole of Memphis Commercial Appeal.
“I’m really just focused on the present right now—the strides he is making, positive strides, and the strides that the team is making. I want him to know he’s got 100% support from us and his teammates.”
The ESPN report emphasized Tee Morant’s involvement in various aspects of his son’s career and the impact it may have had on Ja’s recent behavior. However, Jenkins chose not to comment on the anonymous sources cited in the article.
The Grizzlies head coach underscored his focus on the present and the positive progress Ja Morant is making, along with the team’s collective effort. Jenkins made it clear that Ja Morant has the full support of the organization and his teammates.
