When Kevin Durant was on the trade market last offseason, the Phoenix Suns were not prepared to include their pair of young wins in Mikal Bridges and Cam Johnson in addition to a package of first round picks.
But the transfer of ownership from Robert Sarver to Mat Ishbia changed the calculus for what the Suns were willing to risk to acquire Kevin Durant from the Brooklyn Nets.
“When Durant was briefly on the market last year, the Suns were no way willing to do this type of trade,” said Brian Windhorst on ESPN’s Get Up. “To trade their two really good young wing players in Mikal Bridges and Cam Johnson, in addition to the four first round picks. That was a hard no from the Suns last year. That’s why it didn’t get off the ground.
“Now with a new owner, completely different mindset, they say yes.”
