Golden State coach Steve Kerr has spoken about the future of his team’s core comprised of Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green.
Many in the NBA world believe that this current season could be the trio’s last together amid rumors of Green being traded, but Kerr doesn’t see it that way at all apparently.
“That’s never crossed my mind,” Kerr told 95.7 The Game. “I’ve played on those Bulls teams, The Last Dance…I don’t feel that way about this team at all. I think Steph, Klay and Draymond, they’ve got lots to give for years to come. I never even stopped to give that a second thought.”
Of course, Kerr isn’t going to give away the team’s offseason plans or admit that the end is near. But for him to say that it hasn’t ever been a thought of his is a bold statement.
Green, Thompson and Steph certainly aren’t getting any younger. Green is the youngest at 33 years old, Klay Thompson is a month older and Steph is 35.
Green has made his desire to stay a Warrior for life very public, but understands there are limitations around luxury tax.
“I am only going to play basketball for 15 years, I want to retire as a Golden State Warrior, but it is not up to me,” Green said in April.
The Dubs are down 3-1 and will have to fight to keep their postseason alive on Wednesday.
If they don’t, there will be serious questions around their future capabilities together, especially considering how much experience the veterans (including Kerr) have between them.
