Stephen A. Smith was not at all happy with the comments Dennis Schroder made about Kevin Durant and he roasted Schroder for them.
Following USA’s gold medal win, Schroder went on a rant about KD, specifically around the caption KD used in his post which Schroder said “tells me how weak he is as a person.”
Durant referenced Schroder’s comments about “entertainment and IQ”, which clearly didn’t sit well with Schroder.
Stephen A. Smith since weighed in and didn’t hold back about Schroder after he clapped back at Durant.
“What the hell is wrong with you? You got no business calling Kevin Durant ‘weak’, Smith said on First Take. “Let’s call Kevin Durant what he is. He’s one of the greatest players in NBA history. Okay? Yeah he can be a bit petulant at times, bit moody at times, whatever. He’s also one of the great people you’ll ever meet. He’s a good dude.… He’s a four-time gold medal winner for the United States Olympics and he’s the all-time leader scorer – a record 518 points… You attacked his manhood. How dare you say something like that about [KD]. He don’t deserve that.”
He went on to say that Durant was only “making a point” that they both have basketball IQ and entertainment.
“He’s qualified to say that because he’s the most celebrated Olympian in history in the sport of basketball,” Smith said. “More so than LeBron James, more so than Steph Curry, more so than Carmelo Anthony.
“Certainly, more so than Dennis Schroder.”
Smith also added, “Dennis Schroder, you can’t shine Kevin Durant’s shoes. You can’t do it. You’re not just not that guy.”
Schroder’s German team finished fourth at Paris Games, behind the USA, France and Serbia after winning the FIBA World Cup Tournament in 2023.
