Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is entering Year 1 of a five-year, $172 million max contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder and his future with the franchise has been questioned by some in the media as he could be the next potential trade target for teams trying to make an all-in move.
The Cleveland Cavaliers recently acquired Donovan Mitchell from the Utah Jazz for a package of future first round picks, which led to speculation on who the next star player to be traded could be whether it’s Gilgeous-Alexander or another player on a non-contender.
“The only reason we’re talking about it is because another player on another team got traded,” Sam Presti said. “The machine — the aggregation machine — is empty now. So we need a little more content.
“That’s the price of admission. It’s not a penalty. No one’s out to try and disrupt the Thunder or create problems for the Thunder. It’s just this is the business we work in. You shouldn’t be surprised by that.”
