Russell Westbrook on Relationship With Kevin Durant Ahead of Playoff Matchup

The first playoff matchup between former teammates Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook has garnered a lot of attention considering their past strained relationship.

When Durant joined the Golden State Warriors in 2016 (the team that defeated him and Westbrook in the conference finals the previous season), he left behind a strained relationship with Westbrook.

But despite their past differences, Westbrook told reporters on Wednesday that his resentment towards Durant has faded.

“It’ll be normal for me,” Westbrook said. “I think people still think there’s some beef or something.

“There’s no beef. I got nothing but respect for him and things he’s done with his career. Happy to see him back from injury.”

Westbrook and Durant made four Western Conference Finals appearances together and reached the Finals once in 2012, where they lost to a Miami Heat juggernaut led by LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.

Now over a decade later, they meet in the playoffs. Game 1 of Suns vs Clippers is scheduled for Sunday in Phoenix.
