REPORT: WNBA Superstar Breanna Stewart Meets With New York Liberty

Breanna Stewart, a two-time WNBA champion and three-time WNBA All-Star, met with New York Liberty executives this week, which could close the book on her time with the Seattle Storm.

Along with Sue Bird, Stewart is one of the Storms’ two stars who are unrestricted free agents this offseason. Bird recently announced her intentions to play for a 19th season.

Yahoo! Sports’ Chris Haynes reported the news of the meetings.

Breanna had an injury-riddled season in 2021 that got cut short with an injury to her left foot back in September against the Washington Mystics. The top overall pick in the 2016 WNBA Draft had surgery for a minor repair and reinforcement of the Achilles tendon in her left leg on October 14.

“My heart is in Seattle, and I plan to be back playing in the new arena, playing in Climate Pledge,” Stewart said via Forbes.com. about her desire to stay in Seattle. “Overall, I think the offseason is going really well—obviously taking some time away from basketball and making sure I’m rehabbing and recovering well.

“I am going to be interested with what happens in free agency not only for myself but really for the entire WNBA because it seems like we have a lot of free agents this year, and with the new CBA, it will be interesting to see how everything shakes out.”

Breanna Stewart has a career average of 20.0 points and 8.9 rebounds per game.
