Eventually, a talented one like Quin Snyder might just really have to wait for coaching offers to flood on his side.
But if he’s willing to wait, he might consider occupying the coveted seat of the team that the winningest head coach has filled for over 20 years and counting.
Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer has written that league circles around the league are expecting Snyder to become the lead candidate to guide the San Antonio Spurs should the 73-year-old Gregg Popovich decide to retire soon.
Added by Fischer, San Antonio CEO R.C. Buford holds a high regard for Snyder — which can play a factor on possible partnership from both sides.
There is an expectation in league circles that whenever San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich inevitably steps away from his own head coaching post, Snyder will be the leading candidate to replace the fabled leader. Snyder is said to be held in high regard by Spurs CEO R.C. Buford.
The Jazz have made efforts to extend the presence of Snyder in Salt Lake City, but it was the crafty tactician who ultimately decided to part ways. Desiring to embark a different direction and take a layoff from basketball were his reasons for stepping down as the club’s bench boss after eight seasons.
As such, if he is willing enough, Snyder can become the deserving successor of Popovich in spearheading the historic franchise to a brand-new culture and identity.
