Australia have qualified for the second round of the FIBA World Cup, which means Mavs teammates Josh Green and Luka Doncic will go head-to-head.
The pair have played together in Dallas since 2020 and Green is excited about the prospect of matching up with the Slovenian superstar.
“Obviously, Luka is an amazing player,” Green told BasketNews. “I like playing with him, but at the same time, we are both competitive players, and both of us will be ready to go and compete against each other in the next game.”
It will be somewhat of a revenge match for Slovenia, since Australia beat them 107-93 to claim the bronze medal in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
There is a good chance that Green will be guarding Luka in the highly-anticipated match up but Green says it should be enjoyable.
“Of course, it’s always fun playing against competitive guys,”Green said. “It’s gonna be good. I watch every game here [in Okinawa]. I think he worked on his body a lot, he’s looking good, but I can’t give you a full breakdown, we have a game [coming up]. He’s an amazing player, I’m lucky enough to go against him in practice most days. Looking forward to it, should be fun.
“At the end of the day, it’s one of those things… He’s one of the best players in the world, so we will definitely have a lot of work with him. Coaches will come with the game plan that I’m gonna follow, and I’ll do what I can do.”
22-year-old Green got his first start in the FIBA tournament against Japan – a game which Australia won comfortably 109-89.
He recorded an impressive 15 points, three rebounds, one assist, four steals in 21 minutes of playing time.
