The New Orleans Pelicans have exercised the 2023-24 rookie scale team options for Kira Lewis Jr and Trey Murphy III. This was the fourth-year option for Lewis and the third-year option for Murphy.
Lewis is currently recovering from a torn ACL that he suffered last season. In 78 NBA games over two-plus seasons, the 6-foot-1 guard has averaged 6.2 points and 2.2 assists per game. Lewis will now be on the New Orleans cap sheet for $5.7 million next season.
Murphy became a rotation player by the end of his rookie season. He’s now firmly entrenched as a key bench player this year. In 66 NBA appearances, Murphy has averaged 6.0 points and shot over 41% on three-pointers. The 6-foot-8 forward’s third-year option being picked up will have him on the Pelicans books for $3.4 million next season.
