Patrick Beverley has added his voice to the growing list of NBA players who believe that Hawks star Trae Young should be a part of the Team USA roster.
In a recent episode of the Pat Bev Pod, Beverley expressed his conviction that Young deserved a spot on the national team. When asked about his preference over who should make way for Young, Beverley humorously replied, “Close your eyes. Turn around twice. And whoever you land on, that’s your pick.”
“He’s won plenty of games,” Beverley explained why Young deserved to be selected. “He’s hit plenty of daggers. He’s reinventing the game. Whatever Steph Curry is leaving over, he’s taking it and running with it. Took his team to the Eastern Conference Finals. He’s won big on the road. So you have to give him a lot of credit.
“And that’s not to take away from anybody else or how they run things. With USA obviously it’s a structure that that comes with it. Trae Young will have his shot. He’s going to have that jersey on. If it’s not this year, soon to be, so that’s not a worry.”
Young’s absence from this year’s Team USA lineup raised eyebrows, with former NBA star Gilbert Arenas suggesting that his shoe deal influenced the decision due to the strong Nike association with the national team.
