The first of many dominoes has fallen in Boston’s offseason.
Per former CelticsBlogger and Spotrac’s Keith Smith, Oshae Brissett has officially opted out of his $2.46 million player option for the 24-25 season and becomes an unrestricted free agent. Losing Brissett obviously creates a hole in Boston’s wing depth behind Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum. During the regular season, he averaged 3.7 points and 2.9 rebounds in 11.5 minutes during the regular season. Look for sophomore Jordan Walsh to potentially fill that spot in the rotation as a versatile defender and energizer off the bench.
Signing Brissett was Boston’s first move last summer and in less than a year, he raised a Larry O’Brien. He’ll now enter the free agent pool, but that doesn’t rule out a return to Boston necessarily. The Celtics have few options to add to the roster this summer outside of signing minimum contract veterans to the roster. If Brissett can’t find a better landing spot somewhere else, he could be back in green.
“No. Not at all. I knew I’d be in the NBA, but NBA champion? It felt like a dream and a stretch. It still feels like a dream now, but I’m embracing it,” Brissett told CelticsBlog’s Bobby Manning of his expectations coming into the year. “I’m proud of myself for being here. It took a lot of hard work to get here, to stay in the league, and I did it.”
Oshae Brissett’s player option deadline is today ⏳
I hope he stays with the team. Had some solid performances throughout the year, including in the Game 2 of the Eastern Confernce Finals: pic.twitter.com/CGbclfumq1

He’ll next represent Team Canada in the 2024 Olympics later this summer in Paris. Make sure to check out BrissyTV on YouTube for the avid vlogger. He’s already dropped Part I of some of his championship footage.
Next up on the offseason docket for the Celtics front office is the NBA Draft on Wednesday and Thursday where they’ll have the final pick of the first round on the 26th and the 54th pick in the second round on the 27th. On June 29th, team options are due on Neemias Queta and Sam Hauser and qualifying offers on restricted free agents Drew Peterson and JD Davison.
