Both the Denver Nuggets and the Washington Wizards are engaged in a backcourt swap.
As initially reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Nuggets will send Will Barton and Monte Morris to the Wizards for Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Ish Smith.
Washington coach Wes Unseld Jr. has a sort of familiarity for Barton and Morris, as he handled the two during his time as an assistant for the Nuggets from 2015-2021. As such, the addition of Morris gives franchise star Bradley Beal a reliable ball handling partner.
Denver, on its side, receives a prime 3-and-D swingman in Caldwell-Pope and a bench veteran Smith that will be helpful in their championship pursuit next year.
