NBA Insider Shams Charania has given an update on the status of suspended Warriors forward Draymond Green, who was suspended indefinitely by the league five days ago.
Green was handed down the sanction after he struck Suns center Jusuf Nurkic in the face, insisting it was an accident, but given his history the NBA came down hard.
The four-time NBA champion will be out for at least the next three weeks, according to Charania.
“League sources said Green, 33, was expected to receive counseling and work with the Warriors and NBA while suspended,” Charania said. “People around Green and the organization said the four-time NBA champion has been understanding and prepared to undergo the process required to return to the team in a full capacity. Those sources would not reveal the specifics of Green’s counseling out of respect for his privacy.”
Golden State head coach Steve Kerr was recently asked about Green’s situation after their 124-120 victory over the Nets on December 16.
“I can’t really share that,” Kerr told reporters. “That’s really private. What I can tell you is that Draymond has our full support, that Draymond is himself very much committed to creating the change that he wants to see.”
After the incident, Green apologized to Nurkic and explained that he was just trying to sell a foul.
“As you know, I’m not one to apologize for things I meant to do, but I do apologize to Jusuf. Because I didn’t intend to hit him,” Green said. “I sell calls with my arms.”
Draymond’s lengthy history with these type of incidents is fairly concerning.
This current suspension marks the sixth of his NBA career and his second just this season alone.
His first stemmed from an ugly incident, which ended with Green putting Minnesota big man Rudy Gobert in a headlock.
