The NBA has found traction on a future In-Season tournament.
The league and union are discussing a structure that includes December pool play, pre-Christmas quarterfinals, semifinals and finals with a $1 million per player payout for the winning team.
Shams Charania of The Athletic reported in September that the league had picked up the discussions again.
Adam Silver is a proponent of the idea, but lacked the votes in the past. Silver is said to model the concept on European soccer tournaments such as the FA Cup, but those differ from the league’s proposal in a number of key ways such as being open to clubs from multiple levels in addition to the fact domestic leagues do not have a playoff to determine a champion.
