Indiana Pacers’ center Myles Turner, despite ranking at #65 in ESPN’s Top 100 NBA players, is confident that he belongs in the top five among the league’s centers.
Turner, the 27-year-old former first-round draft pick, expressed his initial reaction to the ranking on the “No Chill with Gilbert Arenas” podcast
“So the immediate reaction will be like ‘What the f*ck, 65? This is…’ I’ve been at this sh*t for too long,” he said. “I feel like ESPN’s whoever is going to release a list to get that reaction from a mass crowd, it’d be like ‘There’s no way this person supposed to be this low or this high and this and that.’
“They are playing their role and I’m gonna go out there and show why I ain’t 65. It’s really just that easy. I can sit here and, like I said, woe with me and be pissed off or go out there and hoop. And for the ones that actually know hoop, realize I’m a top five center in this league.”
When asked about ranking himself as a top five center in the NBA, Turner confidently stated, “Very, very reasonable.” He added, “There’s not much I can’t do on the floor. I can play inside, outside, defend, and run the floor. What more do you want from me?”
Last season Turner averaged 18 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.3 blocks, and 1.4 assists in just 29.4 minutes per game.
