A judge in El Cajon, California, has given the green light for star Memphis recruit Mikey Williams to face trial on six serious gun charges, casting uncertainty over his immediate basketball prospects, via ESPN.
The arraignment is set for October 24, and despite the prosecution’s attempt to raise his bail to $500,000, it was denied. Williams, who was arrested on April 13 and has been on a $50,000 bond, is currently taking online classes at Memphis.
However, he is barred from team facilities and activities, with his status within the program pending the resolution of the court case.
The Tigers’ season starts on November 6, and Williams, facing charges including assault with a weapon and firing into an occupied vehicle, could potentially face a maximum sentence of 28 years in prison if convicted on all counts.
