Mavs Turned Down Late Lottery Pick For Dorian Finney-Smith

The Dallas Mavericks are seeking to upgrade their roster before the trade deadline, but don’t intend to part with Dorian Finney-Smith as part of that process. Dallas recently turned down an offer of a late lottery pick for the sixth-year forward.

Finney-Smith is currently on one of the NBA’s best value contracts, as he’s making just $4 million in the final year of his deal. He’s averaging a career-high 10.1 points, to go along with 4.8 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game. Finney-Smith is also the Mavericks best wing defender.

There’s been speculation that with Finney-Smith and guard Jalen Brunson being looming unrestricted free agents, that the Mavs may look to trade either or both players. Dallas is currently projected to be just under the luxury tax for the 2022-23 season. And that’s before re-signing Brunson or Finney-Smith to deals that will likely start in the $15-20 million range in first-year salary.
