Dallas Mavericks’ star Luka Doncic was voted the top player to build a team around by NBA executives, per a survey from Hoops Hype.
Fifteen executives were polled for the survey; Doncic unsurprisingly topped the list with one executive saying “Luka’s size, IQ, scoring ability from every level, and passing will allow him to continue to play at an MVP caliber level.”
Boston Celtics’ star Jayson Tatum ranked second.
Executives were impressed by Tatum’s all-around development after leading the Celtics to the NBA Finals.
Memphis Grizzlies’ star Ja Morant (#3), Cleveland Cavaliers’ rookie sensation Evan Mobley (#4), and Minnesota Timberwolves’ offensive dynamo Anthony Edwards (#5), rounded out the top five.
Cade Cunningham (#10) and Jalen Green (#11) cracked the list after strong finishes to their respective rookie campaigns.
It will take a generational talent to make an executive choose somebody other than Doncic; who’s still just 23 years old.
