Luka Doncic got nothing but love for tournament host Japan as he graced the 2023 FIBA court for the first time on Saturday, Aug. 26.
In his postgame presser following Slovenia’s 100-85 World Cup entry dub over Venezuela, the superstar submitted his words of appreciation for the Japanese fans who serenaded him and his nation’s first rally.
“It’s great, man. I remember the first friendly game we played here in Japan. It was so much support from the Japanese fans,” he said. “They’re amazing and here’s too, so I really appreciate the support from Japanese fans.”
As they held a right to pick a country who will play at their home soil in the World Cup, Japan opted to choose Slovenia partly because of the Dallas Mavericks sensation.
As such, their selection didn’t disappoint as Doncic danced with a spectacular 37-point display to lead Slovenia’s rout over the Venezuelans.
Japan will continue to see the brilliance of Doncic as he and Slovenia are about to clash against Georgia on Monday in continuation of their World Cup Group Phase campaign.
