Lou Williams has no plans yet of hanging his jerseys and basketball shoes for good.
The veteran guard will hit the 2022 offseason by being “proactive in talking to teams during free agency” to explore another playing opportunity (h/t Shams Charania of The Athletic).
The 17-year microwave cager will now become an unrestricted free agent following a one-year, $5 million deal that he inked with the Atlanta Hawks last September.
Way back in November, Williams have hinted of possibly leaving the game following the aftermath of the 2021-2022 season.
But it looks like retirement papers might have to wait for a while with this decision of him planning to play again.
A three-time Sixth Man of the Year, Williams established himself as one of the legendary reserved players in league history. He is the NBA’s current career leader in points and games played off the bench.
Given his age, Williams will certainly bite an offer of mentorship and occasional production amongst interested teams around the league for next campaign.
