Lakers GM Rob Pelinka must be feeling pretty damn good right now after trading a 31-year-old Anthony Davis for a 25-year-old Luka Doncic.
The Lakers GM put out a statement regarding AD and his contribution to the team:
“We are overwhelming thankful for AD’s six seasons with the Lakers, where he led our franchise to a championship and cemented himself as a perennial All-Star.”
About the incoming Slovenian superstar Luka Doncic Pelinka had this to say:
“Luka is a one-of-a-kind, global superstar who will lead this franchise for years to come. His killer instincts and commitment to winning championships will be a driving force for the team.”
Davis’ new teammate Klay Thompson, who specifically came to Dallas with the goal of winning a chip beside Kyrie Irving and Luka, doesn’t seem too cut up about it all.
“I wish Luka the best,” Thompson said. “It was a joy to play with him in those 22 games we were together, but we’re obviously going to welcome AD with open arms…It’s the nature of the business, obviously you have to be professional with all things in front of you. I look forward to keeping the goal the same…”
Suns star Kevin Durant was completely shook after the trade.
“Insane,” Durant said. “It’s crazy. It’s crazy… I would have never though Luka Doncic would get traded at this age, mid-season… The NBA is a wild place, man. If he can get traded then anybody’s up for grabs. For the fans, for somebody spectating it’s pretty fun. I know it’s kind of nerve-wracking though, probably for Luka, everybody in Dallas, LA, AD… For everybody involved, I’m sure their heads are spinning right now.”
He later added, “This gotta be the biggest trade I’ve seen since I’ve been in the league or since I’ve been watching the sport, this is insane. So yeah, every other team might get the confidence to say ‘f— it, I’ll trade my – you know what I’m saying? I’ll trade my top players, a few of my top players, f— it, if this ain’t working… I’m still shocked.”
