This is the final year of Kyrie Irving’s contract with the Nets and he is set to become an unrestricted free agent next summer.
Sports analyst Stephen A. Smith thinks that the 30-year-old point guard is not coming back to Brooklyn. Moreover, he believes that Irving will go to the Lakers.
His departure would mark an end of a fourr-year with the Nets and he would no longer be teammates with fellow superstar Kevin Durant.
“This is it. Barring a trade before the trade deadline, this is their [Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant] last season together,” Smith said on ESPN’s NBA Countdown. “They’re not resigning with Brooklyn. Kyrie’s not resigning with Brooklyn.
“Kyrie’s planning going to Los Angeles. He’s trying to go to Los Angeles. That’s what he was trying to do over the summer, that’s what he’s trying to do now. He knows that he’s got to get through this season – whether they win or lose – Kyrie is pretty much gone.
“Of course unless Joe Tsai changes his mind and says ‘Okay, here’s $250 million over the next four years,’ which we also silly doubt he will do.”
