Kyrie Irving underwent hand surgery over the summer for an injury suffered during a workout and an insider has reported on his current condition.
The Mavs met in Los Angeles last week for some player organized workouts, but Irving wasn’t able to participate.
He had surgery in July to repair a fractured left hand (his non-shooting hand) and no timeline to return was announced with the surgery by the team.
However, longtime NBA insider Marc Stein says he should be cleared by the time training camp begins.
“At this point he has not been cleared yet for full 5-on-5 hoop, but basically what I’ve been told is he remains on course to be cleared in time for training camp so I don’t think there’s any concern there,” Stein says on DLLS Mavs podcast.
Stein also went on to mention in the same podcast episode that the off-court stuff the team did went even better than the on-court work.
Even though Luka Doncic was absent.
“The only people who were not there and there were always expected to be there because they’re foreign-based players,” Stein explained. “Luka, who is here in Slovenia for the (Goran) Dragic farewell weekend.”
Dallas have added yet another skilled veteran over the summer – Klay Thompson.
No doubt he will fit into the starting unit nicely and provide some more offensive help for Doncic.
Even though Irving averaged 25.6 points, five rebounds and 5.2 assists per game 41.1 percent shooting from three, his production in the Finals dipped.
So, having someone like Thompson on hand to help out will no doubt be a huge asset to the team because Luka simply ran out of gas in the Finals.
The Mavs also added Naji Marshall and Quentin Grimes to the roster.
