Their brutal 43-point loss this Wednesday against the Boston Celtics can only force Kyrie Irving to deliver words of insights that are very much needed by the Brooklyn Nets as they move along.
Irving, a former Celtic who was showered with jeers and boos by Boston’s diehard fanbase, aired a demanding sentiments for his Nets team following their gut-wrenching defeat, 139-96.
“When you’re going against a very motivated team such as the Boston Celtics, they have a chip on their shoulder,” Irving said, via MassLive’s Brian Robb. “It’s clear as day that they want to win a championship and not waste any time in the regular season.
“So tonight I felt like we were just one of those teams in the way and we just can be one of those teams in the way. We got to be one of those teams that stands up to them and at least shows them that we’re going to be competition for them moving forward, which I believe we are.”
With the wire-to-wire victory, the Celtics continued to pile up win blocks on their league’s best 37 wins. For the Nets, they are still looking to maintain that poise and composure with Kevin Durant still taking his time to recover from an MCL injury.
Though they managed to escape and resolve their earlier mistakes this season, Brooklyn certainly has a new task to complete as they try to keep up against the Celtics and avenge their last postseason’s painful sweep.
Irving’s 20 markers weren’t enough to push the Nets on the duel, as Jayson Tatum collected 31 points and nine boards while Jaylen Brown contributed with his 26 markers.
Both Brooklyn and Boston will collide again on Mar. 3 within TD Garden.
