Two days after telling reporters that he was “feeling good” after an injury scare in Game 2, Kristaps Porzingis could be dealing with something unrelated to his right soleus strain that kept him out for most of the playoffs.
Here’s the official statement from Celtics PR:
Celtics Center Kristaps Porzingis suffered a torn medial retinaculum allowing dislocation of the posterior tibialis tendon in his left leg at 3:27 of the third quarter of Game 2. The injury is unrelated to Porzingis’s prior right calf injury. After consultation with numerous specialists regarding this rare injury, his availability for upcoming games will be determined day-to-day.
Head coach Joe Mazzulla said at today’s media availability, “It’s a serious injury. At the end of the day, the medical team is not going to put him in any bad situations. We’ve taken the decision to play out of his hands.”
Porzingis echoed that sentiment. “I’ll do everything I have to to be out there tomorrow….nothing is going to stop me unless I’m told I’m not allowed to play.” He also joked that he’d try to “trick” the medical staff to be available for Game 3 tomorrow night.
