The questions around Klay Thompson’s future have been growing louder, especially after his forgetful performance in the Warriors’ brutal elimination at the hands of the Kings.
The Warriors legend shot 0-10 in the 118-94 loss and was in no mood to be asked about the uncertainty surrounding his future with the Dubs after the game.
“What’s up with you all not wanting to live in the present, bro?, ” Thompson said, via NBC Sports. “To be honest, I really have not given it much thought because of what you previously said about the season we had and how much commitment it takes to play the games we did and give our all. So, I really have not thought about that deep into the future because I still need to process the year we had. It was one filled with ups and downs.”
The 34-year-old is now gearing up top enter free agency and NBA insider Shams Charania has pointed out that the decision that lies ahead for Klay is likely the most difficult he’s ever had to make.
It’s either stay with the franchise he’s known his whole 11-year career and take a significant paycut, or test the waters on the open market.
“Klay Thompson is very open to seeing his marketplace in free agency. … I’m told his free agency is gonna be about respect, it’s gonna be about principle as far as where he stands in that Warriors organization. Four championships, he’s come back from an ACL injury, he’s come back from an Achilles injury, and because of what he’s done, feeling like he’s deserving [of a good payday],” Charania said on FanDuel TV.
“It’s gonna be the hardest call in his life to make if he does end up finding another spot to leave, as far as calling Steph Curry, calling Draymond Green, calling them and saying I’m gone. But he is gonna be open to testing the market.”
