Before his first game back at Barclays Center, Kevin Durant was opposed to the idea of getting a tribute video, but he got one anyway.
Earlier in the week, Durant was responding to fans on social media who were discussing whether the Nets would give KD a tribute video for his time there before the Phoenix-Brooklyn game on Wednesday.
Durant said, “Please don’t, the night will be better without it”.
Before KD put on a show for the Suns, a video honoring the 14-time All-Star was played in the arena.
The forward put up 33 points, five rebounds and eight assists on 62.5 percent shooting from the field against his old team.
Naturally, he was asked about his thoughts on the tribute video after the Suns’ win.
“It is what it is,” Durant said. “Like I said, I can’t control what other people feel and think and do. That wasn’t gonna stop me from just doing my job regardless of how I was honored. But there’s classy people here. They appreciate everybody who donned a jersey; I don’t care if it was for a 10-day. And that shows a great organization when you can appreciate everybody who stepped foot in here and put their blood, sweat, and tears into your organization. So I respect that.”
Reporters also couldn’t resist asking Durant if he’d given thought to different scenarios in Brooklyn, rather than the one that played out (the failed Big Three experiment with Kyrie Irving and James Harden).
“What happened,” Durant said. “That’s what I thought about: what actually happened. The reality of it.”
“We didn’t have enough time together. That’s just it,” he continued. “Guys wanted to go their separate ways. We tried our hardest to, you know, salvage everything and everything together. We had three or four different teams [from] when I signed here until when I left. But at the end of the day, I enjoyed coming to work, playing for, being a part of this community and playing, representing Brooklyn; regardless of what went on, what was said or how I felt, I still came to work.”
