NBA star Kevin Durant, a native of Washington, D.C., and raised in Prince George’s County, has voiced his support for the potential relocation of the Wizards to Alexandria, Virginia.
“I think it would mean everything to the city,” Durant said, per Josh Robbins. “I think they’re still going to be D.C.’s team. V-A is right there on the border. So, I think fans still will be able to have access to the team and come to watch the games.
“But a better venue, with more activities around, is only better for the city. So, I’m looking forward to that. Washington sports have meant so much to our community. I’m just glad that they’re still around, glad that they continue to keep building. It’s one of those times.”
Durant emphasized that even with the relocation, the Wizards would remain Washington, D.C.’s team, given the proximity of Virginia to the capital.
He highlighted the positive impact of having a better venue with more activities around, envisioning it as a positive development for the city. Durant, rooted in the community, expressed his happiness that Washington sports continue to thrive and evolve.
