In a stunning reversal of course, Kenny Atkinson has decided to not take the head coach position with the Charlotte Hornets. Atkinson will stay with the Golden State Warriors as an assistant coach to Steve Kerr instead.
Sometime during the last week, following further discussions with the Charlotte organization, Atkinson decided to not take the Hornets job. Reportedly, Atkinson decided it would be best for him professionally and personally to remain with the Warriors.
Charlotte will now restart their head coach search. Their other two finalists, Mike D’Antoni and Terry Stotts are both still available. At this point, it’s unclear if either D’Antoni or Stotts remain interested in coaching the Hornets.
