The Dallas Mavericks are nearing a deal to sign guard Kemba Walker. The four-time All-Star Walker has been a free agent since the end of the preseason.
Dallas will have to make a roster move to sign Walker. The veteran guard will sign a prorated veteran minimum contract for the rest of the season with the Mavs.
Walker has not played this NBA season. He was traded from the New York Knicks to the Detroit Pistons in a salary-clearing move this summer. Walker was then waived by Detroit without the Pistons requiring him to report to the team. In 37 games with the Knicks last season, Walker averaged 11.7 points and 3.5 assists.
The 11-year veteran has said several times that he’s had NBA offers since being waived by Detroit. Walker said he was waiting for the right opportunity, and that he feels great physically and has kept in great shape while waiting for his next team.
