The San Antonio Spurs are working through a surplus of young wing players this season. In part, that’s led to San Antonio experimenting with Jeremy Sochan playing point guard. Ultimately, it’ll probably take a trade to thin things out a bit.
If that happens, it could be Keldon Johnson who is on the move from the Spurs. ESPN’s Marc Spears said that he continues to hear that Johnson may not really fit with San Antonio’s starting group and that he should be coming off the bench.
Johnson is owed $74 million over the next four seasons. His contract for this season is $20 million, and his deal descends year-to-year and finishes at $17.5 million in 2026-27. That’s a movable contract, and the descending nature could be enticing to a contender that has luxury tax issues moving forward.
