Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid will not travel and will miss Games 1 and 2 of the Sixers second-round series against the Miami Heat. There is optimism Embiid may be able to return for Game 3 or 4, when the series shifts back to Philadelphia.
Embiid is currently in the league’s concussion protocol, while also dealing with a fractured right orbital bone. Embiid must clear the concussion protocol before being cleared to play. He’ll also see a doctor later this week to see if the orbital fracture is something he can play through.
Embiid was hurt late in the 76ers closeout victory over the Toronto Raptors in Game 6 of the first round. Pascal Siakam hit Embiid in the face as Philadelphia was blowing out Toronto.
Embiid has played in the past with a fractured left orbital bone. He played with a mask during that stretch a few seasons ago.
