It has been reported that the Los Angeles Lakers have asked Phil Jackson to help in their search of a new head coach. He won nine NBA championships as a coach, three of them with the Lakers, but his resume as an executive has been far from great.
Former NBA star JJ Redick thinks that the Lakers are following their pattern of behavior and are making a mistake. “Teams don’t want to operate that way anymore and that’s the problem with the Lakers,” he responded to Stephen A. Smith’s idea that the Lakers should trade LeBron James.
“They have refused to modernize how they operate. We’ve seen over the last 10 years they’ve been in the playoffs three times, only once did they get out of the first round, that was in the bubble in 2020.
“The idea that they’re going to bring in Phil Jackson to help with the coaching search given his record as an executive in New York, and with the hires he made, again it’s a patter of behavior, we talk about the patter of behavior, it fits the pattern of behavior.
“Other teams are not going to fall susceptible to that. So no, I think this is a crazy take, it’s a crazy take.”
