Jimmy Butler’s old life in Miami is still haunting him.
The Golden State Warriors forward is facing a lawsuit over unpaid rent and property damages related to a luxury home he leased in Miami Beach and used from 2022-24.
The lawsuit, filed by Five Star Marketing and Promotions, Inc. in Florida’s 11th Circuit Court, claims Butler failed to pay $260,000 in rent and left behind damages exceeding $127,000.
According to court documents, first obtained by WPLG 10, Butler leased a 5,398-square-foot contemporary home built in 2016, featuring five bedrooms, six bathrooms, and a pool. T
he property, valued at approximately $10 million, sits along a canal. The lawsuit alleges Butler neglected key maintenance responsibilities, in particular failing to care for the air conditioning system and swimming pool.
The lack of maintenance reportedly led to severe mold growth, necessitating the replacement of ceilings and floors. Additional damages mentioned in the lawsuit include broken drywall, damaged flooring, and a malfunctioning HVAC system, which contributed to the overall cost of repairs.
The lawsuit claims Butler changed the locks on the home without providing the property owner with a key, which prevented maintenance workers from accessing the property for necessary repairs. The homeowner argues that this not only delayed upkeep, but also exacerbated existing issues, leading to more extensive damage.
The plaintiff is seeking $257,282 in damages and intends to withhold Butler’s $130,000 security deposit to cover part of the outstanding costs.
Butler, who has helped the Warriors to a 7-2 record since he arrived, has yet to comment publicly on the allegations.
The 35-year-old initially requested a trade away from the Heat in January and amid all the drama that came with it, he reportedly moved into a $70K-a-month residence on Miami Beach’s exclusive Hibiscus Island.
Jimmy’s landlord in San Francisco had better be careful.
