Starting 5, a new Netflix Sports series starring Celtics standout Jayson Tatum and four other NBA superstars, drops Wednesday, Oct. 9.
Tatum will join LeBron James, Jimmy Butler, Anthony Edwards and Domantas Sabonis in a series with the slogan: “Five journeys. One season. All access.” Starting 5 will follow each star through the 2023-24 season, both on and off the court. A brief synopsis, from Netflix:
“Ever wonder how the best athletes in the world maintain their bodies and balance their personal lives over the span of a grueling NBA season? Starting 5, a new 10-part Netflix sports series, provides an intense, behind-the-scenes look at five of the league’s best players.”
Netflix shared a promotional video Wednesday morning, six weeks ahead of the release, with a glimpse into what to expect. The video starts with Tatum texting the group: “Last season was a movie! Ya’ll ready to run it back in October?”
James, Butler and Edwards all respond immediately, with Edwards using his new catchphrase: “Bring ya a$$.” Tatum replies that he’s got some (fire emoji) to show the group, and Sabonis asks what he’s got.

Tatum then adds Netflix to the chat and drops the series cover, which draws excitement from the group.
Kalvin Banton, a visual/art director with the Celtics who goes by @bredhampton on Instagram, posted: “Biggest project of my career thus far!!! Thankful!” Tatum shared the post to his story.
Barack and Michelle Obama are a few of many executive producers involved.
The series will feature 10 episodes that are each 45 minutes long.
