The supermax extension signed by Jaylen Brown with the Boston Celtics was widely reported to be for $304 million over five years.
But in order for the deal to reach $304 million, it would have to start at $52.4 million in first-year salary, which assumes the cap will jump by the maximum possible 10 percent.
The current projection for the 24-25 salary cap is $142 million, which is an increase of 4.4 percent. The NBA is projecting some losses to the bankruptcy of Bally RSN’s parent company Diamond Sports.
With the NBA’s $142 million projection, Brown’s extension will be worth $288.26 million with a first-year salary of $49.7 million
